Ellingwood Chapel Concert Series

Each year the Nahant Historical Society presents a concert series at the historic Ellingwood Chapel at Nahant’s Greenlawn Cemetery on Nahant Road.

The 2004–2005 Ellingwood Chapel Concert Series (which began last November with a gala celebration in honor of Harriet Steeves) starts again with four more concerts through the Spring and Summer of 2005. The Nahant Historical Society sponsors these enjoyable concerts each year with the much-appreciated assistance of the Nahant and Massachusetts Cultural Councils, the support of NHS members and others. Subscriptions to the series (September to July) can be purchased at the following rates

Concert Schedule

“I Wish It So”

Sunday, April 17th at the Ellingwood Chapel
Doors open at 6:30pm, with concert at 7:00pm

Nahanter Dr. Christoph Wald will lead three other young artists on a musical journey through centuries of human longing for a better world. Music will come from both sides of the Atlantic, ranging from the early Baroque period to Broadway. American born pianist Tanja Blaich and cellist Benjamin Schwartz trained and met in Vienna, Austria, continuing at the New England Conservatory. Austrian born soprano Ute Gfrerer studied in Los Angeles then lived in Vienna for 11 years where she met the German recorder player and Lahey Clinic physician Nahanter, Dr. Christoph Wald.

Saturday and Sunday May 21st and 22nd at the Ellingwood Chapel
Doors open at 7:30pm, with concert at 8:00pm

Features Nahant soprano Shea Mavros with her divine voice performing music of Scarlatti, Debussy, Rodrigo plus music theatre and Irish folk tunes.

“Bold and Brassy”

Saturday, June 4th at the Nahant Village Church (note location!)
Doors open at 7:30pm, with concert at 8:00pm

Introducing organist Thomas Bold performing with Nahant’s perennial favorite, the Huntington Brass Quintet, in a new combination of brass and organ, which is unique in the history of the series.

Saturday, July 16th at the Ellingwood Chapel
Doors open at 7:30pm, with concert at 8:00pm

The final concert of the 2004–2005 season will star Donald Wilkenson, also a Nahant resident and an internationally respected bass baritone. He will be featured in Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute, presented by Boston-based Emmanuel Music in their next season. John Finney, the associate conductor of the Handel and Hayden Society and others will accompany Mr. Wilkenson in a program that will highlight the Baroque.
